Day 1: Marrakech -> High Atlas Mountains -> Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah -> Dades Gorges
Your tour begins with a morning departure from your accommodation in Marrakech. Drive through the High Atlas Mountains to Ait Ben Haddou, seeing traditional Berber villages, enjoying exquisite Atlas views, and stopping at panoramas for photos.
At Ait Ben Haddou village you’ll visit the antique Kasbah, protected by UNESCO since 1987. Many films shot in Morocco used it as a location, including Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and parts of the series Game of Thrones and O Clone.
After lunch here, drive towards the Dades Gorges via Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses. On arrival you can visit the “monkey toes” rock formations before heading to your accommodation.
Day 2: Dades Gorges -> Todra Gorge -> Merzouga desert
After a delicious breakfast, drive along the Todra River (full of palm groves and Berber villages) to the Todra Gorge in Tinghir, one of the world’s most spectacular canyons. Then travel on to the Merzouga desert.
Before the Erg Chebbi dunes, your driver/guide will suggest a traditional Berber shop, where you can take free photos in Berber dress. Any purchase (scarves recommended for the desert) is optional — the shop’s aim is to promote Berber culture. Tell your guide if you’d like to skip it.
Arriving in Merzouga, ride a camel into the desert to watch the sunset over the dunes and try sandboarding. Then spend the night in a luxury desert camp with a delicious dinner and the magic of the Sahara at night.
Day 3: Full day to explore the Sahara desert
An early wake-up is highly recommended to watch a glorious sunrise from the nearest dune. After breakfast at camp, your exploration of the Merzouga desert begins. Our 4×4 SUV takes you to the Berber nomads behind the dunes, where you’ll learn how they live and much about their culture. You’ll also visit the small hidden village of M’Fis, listen to Gnawa music in Khamlia village, and visit the Lake of Birds if it’s full.
After lunch, we proceed to your riad, where you can check in and relax — swim or stroll to the nearby dunes. Later there’s dinner, and you spend the night at your riad. You can also choose to spend the night at the desert camp again if you’d like.
Day 4: Merzouga -> Ziz Valley -> Ifrane -> Fes
After a tasty breakfast at your riad, we travel to Fes. On the way we’ll stop for a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley and have lunch in Midelt or somewhere along the route. We may see Barbary macaques in the Middle Atlas cedar forest and stop in Ifrane for a break before Fes. Your tour ends with drop-off at your riad in Fes.
