Day 1: Marrakech -> High Atlas Mountains -> Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah -> Ouarzazate -> Dades Gorges
We pick you up from your accommodation in Marrakech. Leaving the city, we travel south-east through the High Atlas Mountains, passing charming Berber villages with photo stops at beautiful viewpoints.
Enjoy lunch in Ait Ben Haddou village, where you’ll explore the old Kasbah — a “fortified village” recognised by UNESCO since 1987 and featured in films like Prince of Persia, Gladiator, and the series Game of Thrones.
After a short drive to Ouarzazate, we can stop at Africa’s largest studio if you’d like to visit. Then we head to the Dades Gorge, passing the Valley of Roses. In the Dades Valley you’ll see the “monkey fingers” rock formations and a panoramic view of the gorge and valley before your hotel for the night.
Day 2: Dades Gorges -> Todra Canyon -> Merzouga desert
Begin with a delightful breakfast, then take a scenic drive along the Dades and Todra Rivers, surrounded by green palm groves and Berber villages, to the incredible Todra Gorge in Tinghir. Then journey on towards the Merzouga desert.
On the way to the Erg Chebbi dunes, your driver/guide will suggest a traditional Berber shop, where you can try on Berber clothes and take photos at no cost. Any purchase (scarves, souvenirs) is optional — just tell your guide to skip it if you prefer.
Arriving in Merzouga, set off on a camel excursion into the heart of the desert. As the sun sets behind the dunes, enjoy the view and try sandboarding. As night falls, retreat to a luxury desert camp for a delicious dinner and the magic of the desert at night.
Day 3: Explore the Merzouga desert
An early wake-up rewards you with a stunning sunrise from a nearby dune. After breakfast at camp, your exploration of the Merzouga desert begins. Our 4×4 SUV takes you to the Berber nomads living behind the dunes, who share how they live and much about their culture. You’ll visit the hidden village of M’Fis, listen to Gnawa music in Khamlia village, and see the Lake of Birds if it’s full.
After lunch, we head to your riad to check in and relax — swim or stroll to the nearby dunes. Later there’s dinner, and you spend the night at your riad. You can also choose to spend another night at the desert camp if you’d like.
Day 4: Merzouga desert -> Agdez -> Marrakech
After a tasty breakfast at your riad, we begin the journey back to Marrakech through the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest. We’ll stop in Agdez for a panoramic view of the valley and its palm trees.
We’ll also stop in Ouarzazate for lunch, then cross the High Atlas Mountains once more back to Marrakech. This 4 days Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour ends with drop-off at your accommodation.
