Day 1: Fes -> Ifrane -> Middle Atlas Mountains -> Ziz Valley -> Merzouga
We pick you up in the morning from your hotel/riad in Fes. Leaving the city, we head to Ifrane for a brief 15-minute stop (perhaps a coffee) before continuing to the cedar forest of Azrou in the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you can watch the Barbary macaques.
We then drive to Merzouga via Midelt and along the Ziz Valley (full of palm trees). In the afternoon, you arrive in Merzouga and stay at a beautiful riad overlooking the golden dunes around the town.
Day 2: Full day to explore the Merzouga desert
Your day of exploration begins with breakfast in your riad. Your first stop is the small town of Khamlia, where you can hear the unique Gnawa music played by locals whose origins trace to southern Africa. Next, you’ll drive off-road to M’Fis, an abandoned village with galena mines, a mineral once used to make mascara.
You’ll also visit a family living behind the Erg Chebbi dunes near the border, sharing a cup of tea in one of their traditional Berber tents and learning about their way of life away from civilisation.
In the afternoon, get ready for an epic camel ride across the high dunes of Merzouga to your desert camp. On the way you’ll stop on a high dune to try sandboarding while watching a stunning sunset. After dinner, relax around a campfire under the stars while the camp staff play drums and teach you to play them. Enjoy a magical night.
Day 3: Merzouga -> Todra Gorge -> Dades Gorge
An early start is highly recommended to catch a pretty sunrise. After breakfast at your camp, you’ll take a road trip through Rissani, Erfoud, Tinghir, and the Todra Gorge on your way to the Dades Gorge. If it’s a market day in Rissani (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), you can visit the traditional Moroccan market, with handicrafts, spices, and street food. You’ll have many stops for photos and to learn about local traditions.
In the afternoon you arrive in the Dades Gorge, where your hotel awaits. Dinner and overnight in your hotel.
Day 4: Dades Gorge -> Ouarzazate -> Ait Ben Haddou -> High Atlas Mountains -> Marrakech
After breakfast, you’ll explore the area, then drive along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to Ouarzazate. Here you can visit the Atlas Studios or take photos from outside. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, used in films such as Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and the series Game of Thrones.
After a tasty lunch, your journey continues to Marrakech across the magnificent High Atlas Mountains, passing charming Berber villages with many stops along the way. Your 4 days tour ends with drop-off at your accommodation in Marrakech.
