OVERNIGHT DESERT CAMP IN ERG CHEBBI
An overnight stay on the sand is the centre of any visit to Erg Chebbi. The camp sits among the dunes, away from the village and its lights, and the night sky over the erg is one of the clearest in Morocco. A camp night pairs the quiet of the desert with a hot meal, music around the fire, and a bed under canvas.
TYPES OF CAMP
Camps run from simple to well appointed. A standard camp provides shared tents, communal washing facilities and a central dining tent. A private or luxury camp gives each party its own tent with a real bed, an ensuite bathroom and a private terrace on the sand. Both types include dinner, breakfast and the walk or camel trek in and out.
THE EVENING
Guests usually arrive by camel or 4×4 in the late afternoon, in time to climb a nearby dune for sunset. Dinner is served after dark, typically a tagine or couscous with bread and mint tea. After the meal, staff from the nearby village of Khamlia often play Gnawa music around the fire — a tradition carried by the descendants of sub-Saharan communities who settled the region.
THE NIGHT AND MORNING
Nights are quiet and, outside summer, cold; tents are supplied with heavy blankets. Waking for sunrise is worth the early alarm, as the light moves fast across the dunes. Breakfast is served at camp before the return journey.
WHAT TO BRING
A warm layer, a torch or headlamp, and any personal medication. Camps have limited or no electricity, so a power bank is useful. Signal is weak to absent, which is part of the point.
PRACTICAL NOTES
The walk or trek from the road to camp takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on the camp’s position. Luggage can be left at your Merzouga guesthouse; bring an overnight bag only. → Best combined with a camel trek in and a 4×4 transfer out, or the reverse.

How early should I book my Morocco tour?
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially if you’re travelling during spring, autumn, or holiday seasons. Early reservations guarantee better availability, a wider choice of accommodations, and more flexibility to personalise your itinerary.
How do I pay for my tour?
Booking is simple. We require a small deposit to secure your reservation, which can be paid via PayPal, Wise, or bank transfer. The remaining balance is paid directly to your driver-guide in cash on the first day of your tour. We accept Euros (€), US Dollars ($), and Moroccan Dirhams (MAD).
Can I cancel my booking?

The Merzouga Sahara Desert is approximately 560 km (348 miles) from Marrakesh. Because of the distance, our tours include scenic overnight stops, allowing you to enjoy the journey rather than spending an entire day driving.
How far is the Sahara Desert from Fes?
The drive from Fes to Merzouga covers approximately 500 km (310 miles).
How far is Casablanca from Merzouga?
Casablanca is about 660 km (410 miles) from the Sahara Desert. We usually recommend a 5-day (or longer) itinerary to enjoy the journey comfortably.
